Alpaca Ranching

Alpaca ranching practices are sometimes demonstrated in a picture that will include a view of a baby or an adult alpaca. Breeding these animals is rather complicated and requires much knowledge. Females can be first bred in 14-18 months of age; they are induced ovulators and do not have a heat cycle, so they can be bred anytime after 3-4 weeks after giving previous birth. Alpaca ranching practices are sometimes demonstrated in a picture that will include a view of a baby or an adult alpaca.

Females are capable of reproducing one baby per year for about 20 years. Males reach the breeding age at about 3 years. Crias (babies) weigh 15 to 20 lbs at birth and can stand on their own within an hour; at the age of 5-6 months they are weaned. Alpaca ranching practices are sometimes demonstrated in a picture that will include a view of a baby or an adult alpaca.
