The largest of the terriers, these dogs are sometimes referred to as the King of terriers. The breed is thought to have resulted from a large Terrier with a rough coated Otter Hound in the 19th century. Airedale terriers are courageous, agile, and smart dogs.

Airedale Terriers are medium sized dogs. Their stiff coats are water resistant, and seem wiry and bristly. The dog’s appearance is characterized by busy eyebrows, a beard and a mustache. Males normally weigh around 50-60 pounds, and measure 23-24 inches in height. Most puppies look quite healthy in the photo, yet some of them get into rescues because of the health problems.
